Day two

Today we visited La hacienda El Viejo, 3000 acres of land all focusing on growing sugar cane and preserving wildlife and nature.

We also went ziplining on six different cables! Our guides were very friendly and experienced. They made sure we had a safe experience. It was extremely scary, but at the end, it was rewarding. It sure was beautiful to see Costa Rica from the sky.

On our boat ride, we saw more than 6 crocodiles, howling monkeys, white face monkeys, iguanas, green backed heron, tiger heron, bats, basilisk lizards, and pizotes (racoon of the southern hemisphere).

After the boat ride, we saw El Trapiche on our tour of El Viejo. El trapiche is the traditional way to process sugar cane by using an ox and a wheel to squeeze out the juices from the sugar cane. There we learned that sugar cane production has become industrilized and that it helps reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. We also learned that El Viejo´s sugar plantation has made great strides in conserving energy and improving efficency.

Our ride back home, we had an impromptu kareoke night. Many participants challenged themselves to go up and go beyond their comfort zone. It was great to see all the talents in our group.
